]]>Cats and dogs are permitted*, though some breed restrictions apply. (Contact us for details.) Residents simply pay an initial $200 non-refundable pet fee, as well as $25 monthly pet fee.
However, if folks adopt a pet from the Michigan Humane Society and move into a Paragon property, we’ll take $200 off their move-in cost and waive the initial pet fee.
“At MHS, we believe that animals truly enrich people’s lives, and nothing can enrich your life quite like giving a wonderful pet a second chance at a loving home,” says Ryan McTigue, public relations coordinator at MHS. “It’s great to see an organization like Paragon encouraging its residents to help save more animal lives by choosing the adoption option!”
Ryan encourages those interested in adopting to stop by an MHS location and speak with an adoption counselor about their idea of the perfect pet, so they can be matched with the furry friend that’s best for them.

]]>Plus, you get to meet the people who grow your food, and support small family farms that struggle to compete against large agribusiness.
Make the most of your market trips with these six tips and tricks:
- Stick a few plastic grocery bags in your reusable totes and use those for filling with your produce instead of using plastic bags from the merchants.
- Arrive early for the best selection and freshest products. Or arrive late for last minute deals on the produce farmers want to move before heading home.
- Buy what you need to use within a week and plan to freeze or can the rest.
- Bring small bills and correct change for easier transactions.
- If you’re buying meat or dairy, ask the vendor to hold it for you until you are ready to go so it can stay cool for as long as possible.
- Get to know your vendors, and place your orders in advance.

One of the kindest things you can do is be inspiring to others, with a warm smile, a kind gesture, a hand up. But don’t forget you. Inspire yourself to be that person you’ve always wanted to be, or do that one thing that will really make your day, week, year, life.

Your Best Friend is waiting for you.
“The Detroit Zoo and Michigan Humane Society, in collaboration with more than 30 local animal welfare organizations, will host the semi-annual event Meet Your Best Friend at the Zoo. Hundreds of dogs, cats, puppies and kittens will be available for immediate adoption to loving homes at one of the nation’s largest off-site companion animal adoption events.
Presented by Purina One, Meet Your Best Friend at the Zoo will be held outdoors under tents in the Zoo’s front parking lot beneath the landmark water tower. There is no charge for admission or parking for the adoption event; however, regular admission and parking fees apply for those visiting the Zoo. The event will include special appearances by Detroit Zoo mascots the Zooper Heroes.
Last year, the spring Meet Your Best Friend at the Zoo event found homes for more than 400 animals. Since the event’s inception in 1993, more than 21,000 dogs, cats and rabbits have been placed into new homes at the spring and fall events.
Take Note:
• Adoption fees and policies vary by participating groups.
• For health and safety reasons, please leave current companion animals at home.
• Strollers are not allowed in the tents. Upon entering the event you will be asked to park your stroller before entering the tents.

]]>A big-tall-cold-ice filled glass of lemonade thank you goes out to all the Paragon Properties, volunteers, and residents that made “Alex’s Lemonade Stand—Giving Apartment Style” a huge success.
The goal was to raise $5000 for the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, that helps to fight childhood cancer. The goal was reached through the generous donations and efforts of residents and volunteers, and selling lemonade.
By reaching this goal, Paragon Properties will match the amount raised, doubling the funds raised to combat childhood cancer. The best part is that the goal was surpassed!
Once again, a big Thank You to all who participated and donated to such a worthy cause.

Unfortunately, there are very real realities among us, like not having food or shelter. And fortunately, there are organizations that work daily to help. But, they in turn need our help to keep doing what they do.
One such organization is Gleaners Food Bank, which serves southeast Michigan. Gleaners tries to make the effort for you to help as easy as possible. On their website you can access the “Gleaners Virtual Food Drive.” Instead of you you purchasing food from a store and bringing the items to them, you can shop or donate directly from the Gleaners website.
“You can help us reach our goal of distributing the equivalent of over 100,000 meals every day to our hungry neighbors in southeast Michigan. With a demand at an all-time high, we have to purchase more food than ever in order to meet the needs of our 550 food pantries, soup kitchens, and community agencies.
Your generous gift to Gleaners will provide our hungry neighbors with the nutritious and healthy meals they need. Of every dollar donated, Gleaners uses 94 cents for food and food programs. One dollar provides three meals for a hungry neighbor.
- Virtual Food Drives can be done from your computer without having to remember to shop for cans and haul them to work
- Your dollar goes further because of our bulk purchasing power and efficient distribution network
- Virtual Food Drives are green (i.e., no boxes, no bags, no transportation costs or carbon emissions)
- Your donation is 100% tax deductible
Please make a gift today.”

If you like, you can also contribute in a way that may be familiar to you by bringing donations to your local Paragon Community.
For the length of the cold weather, canned and non-perishable donations will be accepted at Paragon Properties Apartment locations during normal business hours, Monday-Saturday.
