We’ve all seen flash mobs where large groups of people converge in a public spot to break out in song and dance, but what’s a cash mob?
It’s an idea that originated in Cleveland back in September where people come to a local business and spend at least $20 in a designated store. Call it a grass roots economic stimulus program.
According to CNN, a recent cash mob at a bookstore in Cleveland drew 40 shoppers and $1,500 in sales.
Since then, it has spread to other cities via social media, and between 1 and 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 3, a cash mob will hit Tis Country in Downtown Mount Clemens.
The Mount Clemens Downtown Development Authority, which is organizing this cash mob, said on its Facebook post, “It’s a great way to have fun and do something small that can make a BIG difference for a local independent retailer.”
The cash mob fun continues at The Detroit Pub Mount Clemens for an after-mob party. When mobbers show their receipts from Tis Country, they’ll get a tasty discount on a 1/3-pound burger – an enticement to try out a new restaurant and support another independently-owned business.
The next Mount Clemens cash mob is planned for Saturday, March 24, at Gemini Moon followed by an after-mob party at Madison’s Pub.
