I thought I would share some quick fit tips to help you on your grocery grabbin’ journey so that you are fueling your kitchen with healthy , NOT FATTENING foods that your bodies will thank me for later, so keep on reading and try and use these tips the next time you go shopping, of course after you have had that well balanced meal …
First Rule of thumb…
Don’t ever go grocery shopping on an empty stomach!
This can be your worst enemy, and your eyes will most likely be bigger than your mouth, causing you to grab anything and everything in sight because you are in starvation mode.
Next stop: THE LIST.
Make your list keeping in mind your daily activities, how much time you have to prep these foods, quick snacks you can have throughout your day, and of course making sure you have plenty of nutrients from these WHOLE foods your list contains. This does not mean empty calories from processed foods! This is where the next step comes into play:
PERIMETERS PLEASE!
Most Grocery stores are designed so that your produce is on the outer portion, and all your “filler” foods are in the aisles in the mid-section.
SHOPPERS BEWARE,
most of these foods are empty ,calorie- filled, processed garbage! Your list should consist of whole grains, healthy fats, fruits, veggies, dairy, and of course if any of these are on SALE all the better!
SPICES AND CONDIMENTS
try to flavor your food with natural spices such as oregano, cilantro, pepper, etc. and dressings such as lemon or lime, for your salads keep away from those high caloric pre-made dressing’s such as ranch, thousand island etc, balsamic vinegar/red wine vinegar, even yogurt tastes great on salads.
Happy Hunting, I hope this helps the next time you hit the aisles.
