Fall means fun fall activities

August 22, 2011

fall in michiganI hate to say it, but it’s starting to look a lot like autumn.

Today was the first morning in a while where it was actually a bit chilly when I took the dogs out. Add to that kids going back to school and my husband’s raving about University of Michigan football, and there’s no denying what season it will be soon enough.

However, as much as I love spring and summer, I love this time of year in the Midwest, too. For lots of reasons:

- It’s almost time for fall marathon season, which means runner everywhere are doing their last long runs (16, 18, 20, 22 miles) before their big day of choice. They’re so much easier to do when it’s cooler in the morning and the humidity levels are low.

- As much as I complain about how college football takes over our television this time of year, I do enjoy a good tailgate followed by a game. (Difference is, I enjoy it once or twice a season — not every single Saturday.)

- I love watching the trees change color, followed by crunching through the leaves.

- Fall brings about new activities, such as corn mazes, apple cider and donuts.

- You don’t start sweating the instant you walk outside anymore. In fact, I dare say you’re encouraged to spend more time outside, because you know that snow is coming soon enough. Gotta get in all that sunshine and outdoor time you can.

- Apples come in season again! Specifically, Honeycrisp apples! Seriously, I could eat three of these every day when they’re in season, yum yum.

- Haunted houses and other Halloween fun! I love being scared, I love watching cheesy and scary Halloween movies, and I love dressing up and having a good time with my friends.

See, there’s plenty to do in autumn! What are your favorite fall activities?
