Head to and near Ypsilanti for more Crossroads fun

August 12, 2011
By

downtown ypsilantiThe summer-long Ypsilanti Crossroads Festival continues tonight and tomorrow with more events.

Tonight, the theme is “Ypsilanti Legends,” with music taking the stage at 7 p.m. Performances tonight are from George Bedard and Steve Nardella. There will also be a “Shout it Out” teen performance that night. The action all takes place on the downtown Library Park Plaza stage.

Then, tomorrow, there will be a garage sale up and down US-12, billing itself as Michigan’s longest garage sale. People will be selling used goods and also garden produce and jams and jellies up and down the highway; the official day is tomorrow, but the sale will be going on all weekend in many locations.

If you can’t make it this weekend, there will be more music next Friday; jazz and world performers will take the stage, again at 7 p.m.

As I was talking about these performances with a coworker, we agreed that downtown Ypsilanti is very underrated. Between downtown and Depot Town, there are plenty of bars, coffee shops, restaurants and other fun things to do. You can often find me eating pizza at Aubree’s or something a bit healthier on another day. And the historic houses are beautiful, too. I feel that Ypsi gets overshadowed by its more athletic, more successful older brother, Ann Arbor, but there are plenty of attractions there in its own right.

Have you been to any of the Crossroads festival events yet this summer? Will you be going to this one?
