Love was in the air last week at The SPCA of Southwest Michigan Pet Rescue and Adoption Shelter. Cupid’s aim was right on target as many families were fortunate enough to be the recipients of unconditional love in the form of a warm and cuddly pet. A total of 25 animals found forever homes in the week leading up to February 14th. What better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day! I had the pleasure of being at the Valentine adoption event on Saturday and saw for myself the joy that these animals bring to folks. For some, the passion for caring for critters starts at an early age. I was moved when I heard about the generosity of two children, under the age of 10. These youngsters, who by the way didn’t know each other, in totally separate actions, both had their guests bring donations for the shelter in place of gifts at their birthday parties.
Incidentally, both of the children dropped off their funds during the ‘V-day’ adoption event.
Certainly if these kids can make such a grand sacrifice then adults can attend an up and coming SPCA fundraising event where they not only give but get something in return. Mark your calendar for a wine tasting event on March 20th from 4-6pm at Bold Restaurant on Q Ave in Texas Corners for a wine tasting event. (2 miles south KVCC) There are few beverages that are high on my list, but coffee and wine rank among the top five. It’s not just about good wine and food; it’s about expanding your knowledge and repertoire on different wines and different vintages. You’ll get more bang for your buck while you sample fine wine from St. Francis Winery & Vineyards with food pairings provided by Bold Restaurant.
If wine isn’t your ‘cup of tea’, but card playing is, perhaps you can show support for the SPCA at the blackjack table. Wayside West on Stadium Drive will host a Texas Hold Em Blackjack tournament later this month.
