As an adult if there’s one thing I miss, it’s a good old fashioned snow day. Remember how amazing it felt when you got that wake up call on a snow-filled winter day.
School was called off and you had an entire free day ahead of you to spend as you pleased? That just doesn’t happen in grown-up-land.
As we’re on the verge of a major snowpocalypse in southeast Michigan, chances are a lot of plans will need to be re-scheduled and travel will be impacted in time for Groundhog’s Day, Feb. 2, 2011.
According to the National Weather Service, early Tuesday morning we should see 1-2 inches of snow – just a pre-cursor of things to come. Following the Tuesday evening commute, 10-15 more inches are set to blanket the metro Detroit area.
The bulk of the storm is set to hit in time for the Wednesday morning rush hour. A winter storm watch is already in effect – lasting from 4 p.m. Tuesday to 7 p.m. Wednesday.
How will you spend your Snow Day? Do you have a flexible work environment that will allow for you to work remotely or will you have to brave the roads?
The Detroit Free Press is calling the impending snow storm a record-breaker. According to a story in today’s edition:
It’s been six years since snowfall totals have reached double digits in Detroit. In Jan, 22-23, 2005, 12.2 inches of snow fell at Detroit Metro Airport, according to National Weather Service records. The storm on the way could beat that, Kurimski said.
The largest snowfall of the season so far was Dec. 12 when Detroit Metro Airport received 6.3 inches of snow.
This is tried-and-true Michigan winter weather. It often separates us into two classes – the snow-lovers and the complainers. I tend to fall into the latter category, I have to admit. I love to see the snow fall if I don’t have anywhere I have to be. But just the thought of having to dig out my car and take to the snowy, slippery roads is enough to thrust me into certain panic.

I work for Dollar Tree and a snow day is out of the question. I work a 30 minute drive from home on a good day so I am getting up REALLY early on Wed. and trying to make it into work. I have a blanket in my backseat in case I don’t make it and I plan on bundling up REALLY well. I also have a triple A gold card in case I get stuck.
It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. There were alot less cars on the road than usual, and the snow was actually kind of pretty
. I just took it slow, and enjoyed the view. I’m ready for the next snow day. lol
