It’s Girl Scout Cookie time – which flavor is your favorite?

January 20, 2011
By

Somewhere around the end of January we tend to stray from our health and fitness goals, the New Year’s resolutions and promises we made to eat better and workout more regularly.

And I think I have it all figured out.

This is exactly the time of year when we start to see Valentine’s candy hit the shelves at our local shops and – what’s more – those delicious Girl Scout Cookies go on sale.

Who can possibly resist Girl Scout Cookies? At $3.50 a box they’re a tasty bargain sold only once a year by our family members and neighbors.

I was a Girl Scout. I remember how scary it was to go door-to-door and sell calendars and cookies. Sales was never my forte. But these crunchy sweets practically sold themselves. Everyone looks forward to the time of year when Do-Si-Dos and Thin Mints show up on your doorstep.

These days my nieces don’t take the door-to-door approach. They sell cookies to friends and family members or set up shop at pre-approved public sites. And they do a great business. It’s hard to turn down a tradition, isn’t it? We grew up on Samoas and Tagalongs, after all. Something would certainly be missing without a few boxes of Girl Scout Cookies arriving each winter.

So even if it means tagging on another 10 minutes or more on the treadmill every day, it’s worth it for a Thin Mint. I’m addicted. And you’d have to see my nieces – Angela and Amelia are both Girl Scouts. That means I have to order from both of them. Equally. It’s a tricky game and can result in too many cookies if I’m not careful. Thank goodness, for my nephew who is a boy scout. They don’t sell cookies, you see.

Here are the flavors the Girl Scouts of Southeast Michigan are selling this year. Among them are old familiar favorites and some new varieties:

  • Thin Mints: These super popular chocolatey wafer cookies are made with natural peppermint and coated in chocolate.
  • Do-Si-Dos: These crispy oatmeal cookies are coated in peanut butter filling.
  • Tagalongs: These popular peanut butter coated cookies are topped with chocolate fudge.
  • Samoas: These chewy vanilla cookies are coated in caramel and covered in coconut then striped in chocolate. They’re a longtime favorite.
  • Trefoils: This simple shortbread makes a delicious snack.
  • Lemon Chalet Cremes: These vanilla sandwich cookies have a hint of spice and are stuffed with lemony creme filling.
  • Thank You Berry Much: These crunchy rice cookies are filled with cranberries and white fudge chips.
  • Dulce de Leche: These sweet bite-sized cookies are made with milk caramel chips.

So tell me, what’s your favorite Girl Scout Cookie and why?
