Movie fans, we have a major event right around the corner. The 2011 Golden Globe awards is set for 8-11 p.m. Sunday Jan. 16 – the official start of the gala awards season.
Stars of the small and silver screen will gather from the red carpet to the stage to clap for their contemporaries and choose Best Motion Picture, Best Television Series, Best Actor and Best Actress. It’s the perfect reason to throw an informal party for your fellow pop culture savvy friends.
It doesn’t have to be an expensive or extravagant affair. The details are up to you. Here’s all you need to get a Golden Globes mini-gala going at your place:
- The guest list – Decide who you want to invite and send out something simple like an Evite, a Facebook invitation or even a simple email. Choose among friends who love movies and keep up with TV shows so they’re likely to know the nominees and keep the conversation going. Do this today.
- Create a voting ballot – Visit the website and assemble a list of nominees in each major category. Print them out so your guests can vote on who they think will win and keep track as you watch the action unfold. You may want to purchase small prizes for winners – or just wait until the end and see who got the most categories correct and giveaway free tickets to a local movie theater. Purchase those today too!
- Get noshing – What’s a party without hors d’oeuvres and drinks? Don’t have much time? Don’t overdo it. Make a stop at Trader Joe’s and purchase some easy pop-them-in-the-oven bites like mini quiche and cut up a great assortment of cheeses. Put out a fresh tray of sliced veggies and dip. Better yet ask friends to bring an easy dish to pass or a bottle of their favorite wine to share. Make a signature beverage – pair champagne with a splash of cranberry juice and cointreau and add a swirl of orange peel. Call it Oscar.
- Everyone’s a winner – Leave them with something memorable. Consider calling a local chocolatier today like Schakolad in Birmingham and price out mini gold foil-covered milk chocolate Oscar statues for your guests to take home. Put a rush on that order! You’ll be sure to win Best Party Host of the year.
