The new year has crept up on us. Sneakily reminding us that we have basically accomplished nothing and everything at the same time. How is this possible you say? I dare you to take a peek at the New Year’s resolutions you promised yourself last year and tell me, truthfully, how many of these have you resolved? How many of these promises have you kept?
Resolutions is defined as, according to google, a decision to do something or to behave in a certain manner. So you made a conscious decision to do something or behave in a certain manner and it seldom goes the way we planned.
New Year’s resolutions have never been so serious. It’s everywhere, on television, on Facebook, in our homes. I think it is rather important to at least attempt to better ourselves as human beings. To evolve, if you would into a new being.
I am not sure if I am speaking for everyone, or anyone for that matter so I am going to relate this to myself. Why do I keep doing this to myself? Why can’t I just name it a goal, i think that term seems less threatening. I make goals everyday, short term goals. I create and demolish goals everyday anyway, with to-do lists, calendars, reminders in my phones.
1. write a blog (check)
2. clean up room (score)
3. look for job (double score)
4. take out trash (oops) [it happens]
SO why can’t I get this right? It is essentially the same thing.
New Year’s “goals” are so overrated though. I believe true change comes from within, embedded within our pores. You can write it donw, hang it up on your bedroom door, but if you are not dedicated, willing and motivated, then this thought to change will become stagnant. The stale thought will dissipate just as fast as it appears, so when it comes, act upon it. Change for yourself. I have been propelled to change this year, for my health to be a healthier me and this was sparked by death. I have vowed this to myself and no one else.
With that being said, yes I am going to ask. What are your goals/resolutions right now, and what sparked this change?
