There is an art form to mixing a truly delicious drink. The balance of flavors should complement one another. A talented bartender or mixologist gets it right every time.
Next month at Cliff Bells you have a chance to show your stuff. Do you have moves a la Cocktail-era Tom Cruise? Can you mix a drink worthy of Mad Men’s Don Draper? Does a three martini lunch sound more like an opportunity to show off your shaker skills? Then get to work on your recipe.
Michigan’s own Hard Luck Candy Flavored Vodka is hosting a recipe contest. Submit your entry via email to contest@hardluckvodka.com before Jan. 18, 2011 for consideration. Finalists will be notified and invited to shake their stuff at 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27 at Cliff Bells, 2030 Park Ave. in Detroit.
Here’s the catch. Your recipe must include at least 1.5 ounces of either HLCV’s Red Fish or Root Beer Barrel flavored vodka. Recipes will be judged on use of the ingredient and overall taste. Judges will include founders Chris George, Mike Mouyianis and Rob Nicholl with additional area celebrities rounding out the panel.
“We are looking for the most creative and delicious cocktails that can be made using Hard Luck Candy Flavored Vodka,” said George. “We hope the entries come from those who like to mix the occasional drink for friends at home as well as from the many great local bartenders in the area. We welcome everybody of legal drinking age to participate in this first ever Hard Luck Candy Vodka recipe contest.”
- The first place winner will receive: Limousine service for 5 hours provided by Morning Star Limousine; a $200 gift certificate for dinner at a local establishment; and $100 in spending money
- The second place winner will receive: $100 gift certificate to Rosie O’Gradys in Ferndale.
- The third place mixologist will receive: A$50 gift certificate to Ronin in Royal Oak.
- And fourth and fifth place winners will each receive: A$25 gift certificate to Johnny G’s in Mt Clemens.
