November 16, 2010

Attention all turkeys… and runners.

Western Michigan University is hosting its 47th annual Turkey Trot on Saturday, Nov. 20. A 5K race, it is open to runners, walkers and spectators of all ages.

The course winds through the university’s West Campus, with a start and finish line in the Student Recreation Center’s indoor tennis courts.

Online registration is open until 2 p.m. Nov. 18, but registration will also be available on-site from 7:15 to 8:30 a.m., and the race begins at 8:45 a.m. Cost is $15 in advance and $20 on race day.

All runners will receive a T-shirt and will be timed using chip technology provided by Great Lakes ChampionChip. Prizes will be awarded in five-year age categories for both men and women, 14 and younger, and 60 and older.

Participants are encouraged to bring canned-good donations to benefit Loaves and Fishes of Kalamazoo. Last year, more than 800 pounds of food was collected.

For more information, visit the event website or call WMU’s intramural sports office at 269-387-3743.
