Some people just seem to have a knack for coming up with a great Halloween costume idea year after year. I can still recall a few of the best I’ve seen at Halloween parties past – the California Raisin who surely sweated his way through the night but earned rave reviews. The creative girl who made herself into a darling paper doll. The cast of Scooby Doo.
I’ve just never been one of those people who could come up with a truly fantastic costume idea on a dime. Ask friends who’ve known me for years. I think I wore out my black cat costume – through high school and college.
Livonia-based Halloween City is there to help the costume-challenged among us. With less than a week until Halloween and parties coming up (and probably already passing by) it’s time to dig out those wigs, props and makeup and get it together.
Wonder Woman – Whether you grew up watching the series or just grew up jealous of Linda Carter’s impossible waistline, here’s a throwback you can bring back for fun. Be your own superhero.
Princess Leia – No one seems to tire of that cinnamon bun hair do. Feel like getting your Star Wars geek on? Halloween is the perfect time to try it.
Prom Queen – Recycle one of those old fancy satin bridesmaid dresses, toss on a sash, tiara and too much 80s makeup and you’re good to go.
Old Spice Guy – Think simple – a towel and a bottle of Old Spice. Just be sure you’re covered and secured. Wouldn’t want to have a wardrobe malfunction at your friends’ party, now would we?
Michael Myers – Sure it’s a jumpsuit and a mask, but act creepy and you’ll get the scare you were looking for. Don’t believe me? Lurk behind a tree and see what happens.
The Incredible Hulk – Got green paint and some great muscles? You can do this one justice. Tear up some old shorts and a tee and toss on a ratty wig.
What’s your plan this year? What’s the most creative Halloween costume you’ve ever seen? Tell us about it.
