Plymouth’s Old Village hosts Barktoberfest Oct. 2

September 29, 2010

This time of year our thoughts turn to Oktoberfest celebrations where we raise a pint and dive into German-inspired delicacies. But in Plymouth’s Old Village neighborhood, it’s all gone to the dogs.

For the first time, the quaint area will play host to Barktoberfest, a charitable event for dog owners and their furry companions. The event is set for 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, on Liberty Street between Starkweather and Mill streets.

More than 100 people have signed up to participate in an effort to raise money for Homeward Bound Rescue League. The organization, based in Canton, will received half of all proceeds. It places adoptable dogs in permanent homes.

Participants who haven’t already pre-registered can pay $25 on the day of the event to walk 2.5 miles amid the historic architecture of Old Village. For more information, check out this preview story in the Plymouth Observer.

Are you a pet owner? What’s your favorite pet-centric local event? We’d love to hear about it.
