If you spend as much time as you can on your bike, you’re going to like the news in Harrison Township. According to C & G Newspapers, officials have kicked into gear the first of a series of a phases that will lead to the construction of bike paths linking the community.
The Bike Path Project Committee is dedicated to making Harrison Township more bicycle friendly for riders. And it all starts this fall along Jefferson from South River Road to Metro Parkway. The next path will be on Bridgeview from North River Road to South River Road.
A tentative Town Hall Meeting is set for Aug. 26 to discuss the Bike Path Project, according to an article by reporter Sarah Cormier. Her story suggests that early response to the project is positive:
“There’s a lot of different segments of our population that benefit from it,” said Trustee Ken Verkest.
“It’s going to allow for some of the main roads to have better access or walkability and bikeability that they didn’t have before,” said Forlini.
By installing bike paths, the community stands to benefit in multiple ways. According to the Web site RideThisBike.com, bike trails have the ability to promote health and exercise. It also encourages those who can opt to ride a bike to work to do so, rather than drive – which is a friendlier alternative for the environment. Bike paths can even prompt economic growth for businesses along the route, and can improve worker productivity.
What do you think about the addition of bike paths? Do you have them in your neighborhood? Do you use them?
