Today was planned out perfectly… things never go as planned.
The plan was to first go see The Killers, Get snacks for the Fireworks, Get some pizza and go to belle isle to watch the fireworks.
The Killers was first up, starring Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl. We decided to see it at the AMC forum 30 in Sterling Heights. This theatre looked amazing on paper, but the Star Southfield it was not. Although it did have a few glittery patches, that was not enough. haha. Any-who Bee and I decided to go to the 1145am showing, so tickets were 5$, which is pretty cheap. The movie was cute. I wouldn’t know how to categorize it? RomCom? Ashton plays this spy who falls in love with Katherine while she is on vacation with her parents in France. He gives up being a spy after he realizes he is head over hills in love with this woman and would like to settle down with her. After living happily ever after, 3 years later his past comes to haunt him when he finds out that someone has put a hit out on him. So basically in this film, he is dodging bullets being a BAMF. I’ve never seen him doing stunts before so this was new for me. Overall it was cute. A good date movie or movie to see with the girls if nothing else is out.
After the movie we hit up Walmart and did a little grocery shopping for our Belle Isle Adventure. And it just so happens there was one next to the theater. After running into LDS missionaries and going to the bathroom “the last time” we finally set off. . . . For pizza Hut. We go to the nearest Pizza Hut courtesy of Bee’s GPS and get that new 10$ deal. Which includes A pizza any, topping, any size any crust for 10$, which does not include stuffed crust which I wanted! it would’ve been a dollar extra! Boo Pizza Hut! They could have mentioned that in the commercials or signs, anywhere would’ve been nice.
Finally off to Belle Isle to see the fireworks. We arrive at there around 3:30 and it was already packed with cars. . . At least at the entrance. It was as if no one knew there was another side to the park. So as we journey onto the other side of the park we find the perfect spot which had a great view of the fireworks and was right next to the beach.
Since the Fireworks started at ten we had a lot of time to kill. We laid down our spoils and played card games (gin rummy, tonk and black jack). We also ended up walking around the beach, and taking pictures. It was all fun and games until the sunset. (which was beautiful).
Let’s just start off by saying the fireworks are scheduled to start at 10:06, at 930 someone had to go to the bathroom so bad we had to pack everything up and find a restroom. And that someone was not me. After driving around for 10 minutes we finally found a restroom. It was filthy! Toilets weren’t flushed, there were three stalls sharing one roll of toilet paper, THERE WAS NO SOAP!!!!! and to top it off there was a woman standing in the middle of the restroom talking on her cellphone while it was charging. She was talking as loud as humanly possible, as if she wanted everyone on the isle to hear her conversation… I just felt so filthy after. This was by far the worst public restroom experience I have ever had!
As soon as it got back to our spot, it was dark and the blood thirsty mosquitoes came out to play. We decided to sit in the car and watch the fireworks from there with the windows down since it was humid. As soon as we were settled and saw a few of the fireworks in the night sky, the fish flies made an appearance. They were huge. Now for those of you who are not familiar with this species they look like this . Ugly little things! I HATE BUGS! big ones especially! So Bee, being the kind person he is took into consideration my discomfort and we decided to head for the bridge to leave. But so did a hundred other people.
So we were stuck in traffic, surrounded by a million fish flies, on a humid summer night, with the windows up. All of the sudden I hear a buzz near my ear and I freak out, screaming and flailing all over the place. After almost hitting the car ahead of us, Bee saves the day twice and and eliminated the threat immediately. So we missed half of the fireworks and it took us thirty minutes to get off of the forsaken, infested Belle Isle. Oh What a night!
It was the best of times, It was the worst of times.
