I’m not a Jeopardy girl. The very mention of a game of Trivial Pursuit is enough to send me into a panic attack. But every Saturday I tune in to listen to NPR’s radio news quiz Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me! I love Peter Sagal’s biting wit and the way the show’s producers manage to sift through some of the oddest news of the week and present it in an entertaining way.
I think the fact that contestants play for a chance to win veteran Broadcaster Carl Kassell’s voice on their home answering machines (or, as I like to think, outgoing voicemail) is a bizarre and wonderful part of what makes Wait Wait such a great experience.
Though they sometimes take the show on the road, it’s typically housed at the Chase Auditorium in Chicago. And for Kalamazoo residents who adore the NPR quiz show like I do, Michigan Radio has coordinated a sort of field trip.
The Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me! Bus Trip is set to leave from Kalamazoo (and Ann Arbor) on Thursday June 17 and return Friday, June 18.
The trip includes roundtrip transportation, by deluxe motorcoach, a one-night stay at the Palmer House Hilton hotel in downtown Chicago’s Loop area, breakfast on Friday and tickets to attend a live taping of Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me! at 7:30 p.m. Thursday June 17.
The trip costs $235 per person for a double room or $315 per person for a single room. To reserve a spot, click here. And don’t forget to tell me all about it when you return! I’ll be here tuned in to the show, driving around metro Detroit.
