There’s something inherently nostalgic about a candy shop. Sweet shops have a way of tapping into our childhood, a time when the sound of the ice cream truck or the sight of a chocolate bar was immediately followed by the words “Can I, Mom?”
Downtown Plymouth welcomed just such a shop, The Candy Trail, in March 2009. Just over a year later, the sweet shop on Ann Arbor Trail is raking in more than gold chocolate coins. Shoppers stop in to buy candies in bulk, or pick up a card or gift. Inspired by a Chocolate exhibition at The Henry Ford a few years ago, Owner Sandi McGrew’s shop focuses on the sweeter side of life.
After all, even when times are tough economically we can all afford a little treat. From Pixie Stix to bubble gum, M&M’s to Gummi Bears, The Candy Trail is stocked full of favorite treats. Stop by for a sugar fix or to host a party.
All this sweet talk is giving me a toothache. And it makes me wonder – what candy really takes you back to your childhood?
