Southfield goes Mod this weekend

Twentieth Century Girls and Boys, it’s almost that time. Each year Southfield reels in mid-century modern art enthusiasts with its Michigan Modernism Exposition. The event is set to run this weekend at the Southfield Municipal Complex, 26000 Evergreen Road.

Seemingly endless rows of inspired art and antiques are on display and available for sale. More than 50 of the country’s premiere Modernist merchants will set up shop to show off designs by Frank Lloyd Wright, Herman Miller, Salvadore Dali and so many more.

Come by for a quick education in Arts and Crafts style, Art Deco or Neo-Classical movements. The show features everything from mid-century furniture, to jewelry, clothing, photographs, artwork, glass, china, clocks and radios to textiles. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $8.

Early birds won’t want to miss out on a chance to check out the Expo early. The Detroit Area Art Deco Society is hosting a gala preview is set for 7-10 p.m. Friday, April 23.
