An article from over at MyRentalPad.com From an undisclosed resident
I have been contemplating whether to write about a rather interesting but quite annoying experience that I have been having in my apartment lately, but then I thought “You know, some of our readers may be experiencing the same thing.” If this is the case, I am glad I’m not alone (don’t mean to be rude…).
As of about two weeks ago, I haven’t getting very good sleep. Not because I am an insomniac or have so much stress that my head can’t stop spinning. Nope, it’s simply because, well, my neighbors have been getting their romp sessions on late at night at an alarmingly loud level. Seriously, it’s weird and kind of scares me.
Not only are my neighbor’s adventures loud, but they sound as if though a rooster is being murdered and the farmer is slamming his sledgehammer into the walls trying to break through. You think I’m kidding, right? How are people even possible of that? And why on earth would you want to sound like that?
It didn’t bother me so much the first night. I actually thought it was quite funny. But this has now happened five times in two weeks and frankly, I just want to sleep! I have begun to wonder if these not-so-considerate neighbors are making this much noise on purpose. Perhaps they think it’s funny. Well, guess what? It’s not.
I started looking on the internet for ways to politely approach them about this issue without it being too awkward. I have contemplated whether I should stick a note under their door or knock on it to directly confront them. I’m just not sure the best way to go around this. Please, if you have any suggestions, provide me some insight!
As I was searching for answers, I came across many news stories about people actually getting in trouble with the law for their loud sexcapades. I think this is hilarious! People actually getting into legal trouble for having crazy pleasure.
In 2007, a woman from the UK was given an anti-social behavior order that banned her from making loud noises during sex after her neighbor and several others complained about the behavior (which sounded as if people were being hurt). To top it off, she has admitted to violating her ban three times. If you want to read full details, go here for the news story.
Have you ever had to deal with neighbors who have unbearably noisy sex? Share your stories and the solutions you’ve found to work on getting some peace and quiet!
This post is brought to you by the fine folks at Paragon Apartments, offering apartments across Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky, and the Paragon Patio, where residents connect. We’d love to talk with you on Facebook and Twitter!

Pretty tasteless post – imo.
Good Morning Mr Brewer,
Tasteless because you like noisy sex, don’t like it, or just think it doesn’t exist?
You might think it’s tasteless but many of us living in apartments are facing the same thing. I’d rather approach it with a sense of humor (loved the photo of the note) because really what else can you do? About 16 months ago I finally garnered up the courage to mention it to my upstairs neighbor – who was livid. Not because I brought it up, but because it was evidently her teenage daughter engaging in escapade while mother was gone… OOPS!
Hey Eleen, Good Morning, and Thanks for stopping by,
Here is the thing too, if a neighbors music is loud, or the dog is barking, thats a little easier, or less embarrassing to mention to the property manager or even to self address with your neighbor than folks engaging is crazy sex.
And, from the property manager side it isn’t very comfortable addressing a residents loud sexual behavior either,
I’d much rather listen to my neighbors “do it” (if they are somewhat attractive) than listen to them argue, fight, or snore.
After reading this, thankfully my partners are quite. The one who does tend to get vocal holds a pillow over her face when that point arrives.
In reading through the article and then the comments. It came to me that this type of invasion of other individuals right to peace and quiet is no different than loud music or the dog barking. If the individuals such as those described in the article choose to be sooooooo disrespectful it needs to be addressed. Whether or not it is difficult for the property manager to address does not seem to be the issue. The issue is that to tip toe around it only leads to continued and unnecessary ongoing invasion of other individuals right to peace and quiet. Check the lease….its in there!!! Just saying!!! Peace
On a lighter note. Dan you are soooooo funny….really now…a pillow over the face to apparently quiet down…Rock on. smiles
LOL
I just bang on the wall for a few seconds. They learn to keep it down.
Just for the record, it was not here at Eastwood…
I never hear my neighbors do anything. not even run their dishwasher or play music. it’s so quiet and i love it!!!
ohhh although one night they did have a party and someone kept drunkedly repeating “she makes out with me then she yells at me”
It seems that everytime I would take a shower at my old apartment, I would hear my neighbors having sex. It was kind of hard to get that refreshing feeling knowing they were getting sweaty next door. I would sing just to drown them out.
Well be thankful my wife and I are not your neighbors
and personally if I had my choice I’d rather listen to the neighbors getting their free freak on for an hour (if that usually) rather than the people who leave their barking dog home unattended ALL day or the bass from a neighbors stereo for hours on end and often into the night. That said… I had a situation a few years ago where I was living in an apartment at Lakeside Village (a Paragon property). I could hear my upstairs neighbor and his wife/gf getting it on fairly routinely which would either put my gf and I in the mood or we’d turn the bedroom TV up a bit to drown it out however my downstairs neighbor would thump on the floor every time my bed would rock when my gf and I would have at it. We weren’t even being vocal it was simply the bed creaking that would set this db off and I remedied the problem by jumping up out of bed on night and stomping VERY loudly around the apartment screaming “I’ll give you a reason to knock on the wall a$$hole”. He never thumped on the wall again. I can’t help but wonder if people that complain about the neighbors having sex aren’t just a bit jealous that they aren’t so lucky!! I mean seriously, I’ve had some neighbors who were very loud during sex but it only goes on for a short period of time (less than an hour usually) and I would hardly say it deprive me of sleep no matter what time of night they engaged in their activities!
Get ear plugs
My old apartment in Midland was awesome I did not hear any thing except when people would run up and down the stairs. Here I can hear every single thing from the noisy dogs to the neighbors kids. I moved my office out of the basement because of that. They sounded like they were beating each other up. these walls must be like 3 inches thick lol….
